Sarees most likely sum up an Indian woman's beauty. Over the decades, we have chosen sarees for weddings, parties, farewells, and other important celebrations. Therefore, designers come up with new saree trends every season. This year too, we have spotted some cool saree trends that you can wear at weddings or other formal occasions!

Saree Trends - Latest Saree Trends From Top Designer Collections

To create the list of saree trends for 2022, we looked at the collections of the most promising Indian designers and fashion weeks and created a list of the best styles and designs. Let’s take a look at the most popular saree trends for this season!

1- Thin Borders

Gone are the days when our closets housed sarees with pretty wide borders. This year we have seen sarees with thin borders and we have all the reasons to love them. They are light, very handy, and easy to wear to different occasions. Hence, thin-bordered sarees are the trend in our latest saree trends for 2022. Thin borders look chic and go well with different occasions, be it weddings or simple events, you can always choose thin sarees for such occasions.

We saw printed and plain sarees with thin decorated borders. Mostly mirrors, diamonds, zari work, and floral stitching are used to decorate the borders. Jahanvi Kapoor is dressed in an embellished decorated blouse and a brilliant yellow saree with a tiny gold border. The transparent black saree worn by Shyamal and Bhumika is decorated with delicate gold embroidery for an understated yet attractive appearance.

2- Belted Silhouettes

Remember a few years ago when we were obsessed with Sabyasachi brides wearing belts to sarees and lehengas? Well, we’re still all about it! This season we are seeing saree dresses where a belt is a highlight, incorporated into the silhouette and sewn into the saree.

You can also wear a regular saree with a belt, as we have also seen some beautiful sarees with belts. Belts not only decorate the sarees but also define your waist. These belts are specially designed for sarees that have similar fabrics and colors that match perfectly.

We see both wide and plain belts. Some sarees are even decorated with decorative belts with gold or silver buckles. Belted sarees are a wonderful choice for parties as you don’t have to worry about your pallu! When wearing belts, you can either fold the pallu on your shoulder or let it swing.

3- Double Fabric

Combining different fabrics in a saree is a chic idea that gives it a unique look and helps it stand out from the crowd. We saw a version of this trend a few years ago with contrasting pallus and the trend is back, in an even better way! This season we see a variety of fabrics: satin or georgette paired with mesh, heavily embellished mesh blending with velvet, and so on. This is one of my favorite trends in the list of saree trends for 2022.

The beauty of these sarees is quite mesmerizing. The black saree by Gaurav Gupta looks extraordinary with the georgette pleats and structural net pallu. It is exotic yet surprisingly minimalistic. Similarly, Amit Aggarwal’s baby pink satin saree features the signature pallu.

4- Ruffles

Ruffles may not be a new trend, but they are very much celebrated. And this year too, ruffles have made it to the top five saree trends for 2022. We see many B-town actresses in ruffled sarees for red carpet events or social occasions. Kiara Advani shines in a silver sequin saree with ruffles at the bottom hem.

The best designers' selections for design sarees this season include gorgeous ruffles. Both light sarees with little ruffles and richly decorated sarees with huge ruffles are being seen. The black saree worn by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla is embellished with vintage designs and colourful ruffles, giving it a fashionable and elegant appearance.

5- Pleatless Concept Sarees

Concept sarees are sarees that have an eye-catching design that breaks out of the usual pattern. This season, pleatless concept sarees are being combined with unusual blouses. If pleating isn't your thing, try these fashionable pleatless sarees. These are ready-to-wear sarees with a trendy shape that offers you a lovely appearance. They are simple to put on and much simpler to take off because you don't have to worry about pinning the pallus or adjusting the pleats.

Fretting over wearing a saree is a thing of the past with pleatless concept sarees. We see sarees with embellished pallus paired with blouses with different sleeves and additional embellishments. I love the white saree by Ridhi Mehra with the net pallu decorated with linear patterns and long ruffles hanging from one end.

6- Embroidered And Cut Hems

Embroidered and cut hems are a trend that has captured my heart among all saree trends for 2022. These are the sarees whose hems are cut according to the embroidery along the border. It looks chic and classy. Lately, we have also seen a lot of cloud hems decorating lehengas, dupattas, blouses, and of course sarees. If you are tired of plain hems, cloud hems or embroidered hems are an interesting alternative.

Shyamal and Bhumika’s pistachio green saree is decorated with delicate pink flowers on the edges. It is intricately carved according to the embroidery and decorated with zari work. These sarees are excellent examples of minimalist designs.

7- Pastels

We already saw it coming. Pastel colors are one of the top trends of the hour. Not surprisingly, they have been part of several trend forecasts and I believe they are here to stay. We see lightly embellished pastel sarees that can be worn with ease. We saw light pastel shades like pistachio green, rust pink, cream white, and turquoise blue. The sarees featured floral prints or lightly embellished borders and threads. Pastel sarees are your chance to look elegant with ease, because why not? You can pair these sarees with long pendants or thin matching pendants.

8- Multicolor Sarees

In recent years, we’ve seen a lot of solid colors or two-tone sarees. Multi-colored sarees offer us a chance and add a splash of color! Not only does it affect your look, but it also lifts your mood. What better way can we ask for in this pandemic? A multi-colored saree is the best choice to be cheerful all day long! Some of the top designers are playing with bright colors like pink, orange, red, turquoise blue, etc. Pastel sarees are decorated with multi-colored stones, threads, large sequins, etc. We have also seen lightly decorated sarees in a variety of colors. These sarees look vibrant, you can wear them to parties or during the day for dates.

9- Sequin Work

Sequins are literally everywhere! Be it gowns, lehengas, or sarees, we are seeing a lot of sequin work. We're seeing sarees adorned in brilliant glittering yet again. This shimmering appearance is sure to catch the eye. Sequin sarees are generally plain colours or have an equal gradation of two colours with very small borders. These sequin sarees look great with embroidered or patterned blouses. I like Madhuri Dixit Nene's white silver gown, which is carefully covered in tiny silver sequins and has beautiful fringes embellishing the hems. Konkana Sen wore a Manish Malhotra dark blue and white gradient sequin saree.

10- Statement Blouse

A blouse is just as important as the saree itself but the designers are covering this front as well. We are noticing some beautiful blouses with intricate embroidery and we want to share them! Backless blouses, fringes, stones, sequins, and so much more were on display. Manish Malhotra's grey sequin blouse displays the back in a sensual way. Suneet Verma's design has a lot of fringe, mirror work, and zari work. Tarun Tahiliani's nude-colored shirt with a deep V neck and balloon sleeves embellished towards the wrist is stunning.

11- Borderless Saree

Wide-bordered sarees are a thing of the past. What is new, on the other hand, are the borderless sarees! Yes, you heard right. Sarees with braids are a timeless affair, but this season designers have ditched the braids. We see some unique sarees without braids, and they look minimalistic and trendy. We have seen color gradients, linear prints, and sequin work in the sarees but without any trims. These sarees are lightweight and easy to handle, you can wear them to college farewell or lunch. They are handy and give you an elegant feel.
